"Johnny Boy"
acrylic on canvas
Reflection
Johnny Boy was yet another lovely portrait of a human being. With Johnny, I experimented with different colors for shading and the skin tone, using a light purple as the shadows of his face and body. This painting went through many different stages before getting where it is today. I had many failures in the beginning, the shading was difficult to master and create value with and at times looked completely out of place. I also had trouble getting the eyes and eyebrows to be what I wanted, and they underwent many different positions and shapes before I finally found what I was looking for.
I was inspired yet again by a photograph I found on Tumblr of a young male model turning his head to look at the camera. I began with the basic pose and shape of the face and body and diverged from there, now looking nothing like the photo.
