1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
I have been working with digital art and various programs since the 6th grade, and it used to be the only type of art I did. Therefore, I believe I have seen the most amount of growth in my skill in this medium and I know that there is still so, so much room for improvement. This time around, I used different brushes and techniques in order to create the texture I wanted for the skin and the background that created the style I desired. I also liked the color in this piece, as I typically don't explore too much with bright colors. It was nice to be able to adjust the brightness and saturation of certain colors after the piece was completed, something I wish I could do with my non digital pieces. I still failed at making it really good, if that makes sense. I've been exposed to a ton of high quality digital art that has inspired me throughout the years, and mine still doesn't compare.
2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists?
I gained inspiration from a ton of artists on Tumblr who do digital paintings. This painting was also based off of a photo of a woman taken by Cole Sprouse on his Instagram.
3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements.
I began with a picture of a woman from which I color picked the skin tones in order to make it more accurate. I drew a outline sketch of her and then began with the skin. I went through a couple of different hair colors by adjusting the hue and eventually settled on pink. All of my digital pieces have had a blank background, and I wanted to experiment with texture. Overall I like the way it turned out. Then I adjusted the final colors in order to make the piece feel more alive.
4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time?
I wouldn't do anything over, if I wanted to change something I could very easily with the digital format.
5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
It doesn't! Maybe I'll put a nun outfit on her.
