COLORED PENCIL ON PAPER
MAGAZINE CUTOUTS ON PAPER
Reflection
How and why did you build the collage in the portrait piece? What did you consider while combining your piece with others in the collage display?
When I was told the background needed to be a collage, I didn't want it to be. I really enjoyed how my art looked against a stark white background, so when I was building my collage I mostly just scanned magazines for white objects.. I couldn't find a lot of white objects and the what I did find didn't suit the piece so I decided to switch it up, instead covering the background with blue water and a sunset up top. I did like the Eucerin bottles I found, so I was sure to include those. In my collages I always cut up a picture and leave a little space while piecing it back together. This is mostly so that I can use as much space as possible with limited material. I placed the sunset by her head and the ocean below to create a sort of color gradient so that her head would be lighter, representing creativity and positive energy, which I believe is embodied by music and her head phones.
Describe the evolution of the piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements.
I just described the collage decision making, but for the girl it was entirely different. We didn't have much choice on what we wanted to draw, as it was a predetermined drawing of a girl that we had to replicate. But I didn't like the original artist's rendering, so I decided to change most of the colors as well as the shape of her nose and eyebrows. I wanted to go for a more Latina like appearance as opposed to a gross pale emo white girl. Lols no offense.
